Happy Halloween!

Well I hope everyone has a great time and enjoys the fun with their kids tonight.  Today we had our annual costume contest.  Congratulations to our winning aquarium.  I would also like to recognize our runners up; Lost and Found,  Magnum P.I.,  the King of Pop, and some fish. It is the 80's all over again.

Have a safe night.

Parents: Get Smart

In order to keep up with what is going on in the educational community I read several blogs that fill me in on various issues.  Teen prescription abuse has been a growing epidemic in schools for the last several years.  It is very important to keep informed on what is going on with your child and their friends.  Click Here to read some information that will help educate you as a parent.
Please keep in mind that Monroe County has resources that we use through the ISD.  We also bring a counselor, John Basile, from the ISD to speak with our health classes regarding prescription drug abuse.
If you feel that your child or one of their friends are having problems.  Please contact the school and we will find the help that they would need.  Thank you.

Friday Spooktacular Dance

A special shout out goes to Mr. Lopinski and Student Council for putting on the dance Friday night.  The cost is $5.00.  The dance will have a D.J., open gym, concessions, and the world famous haunted path or hallway (weather depending).  Tickets are available at lunch or at the door.   BJHS students are only allowed to the party.  They may wear their appropriate costumes and accessories.
Please remember that we are having the costume judging on Monday, so please wear your costumes then.  Prizes will be awarded to staff and students.  I will be wearing a costume, but it is not superhero related.

Secret Origin

Ok, the secret origin of this blog is that I came up with the idea while taking a class with Mrs. Earl, our educational technologist.
One of the things that I would like to do is survey parents and students.  So I am going to do a test.

This is a Magneto Helmet

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent Teacher Conferences have been set.  We are doing things a little different at the Junior and Senior Highs.  Instead of having a large conference time in the begining of the year, we will be having several small conferences. The dates and time are
11/21 from 5:00 to 7:00,
2/21 from 5:00 to 7:00,
4/17 from 5:00 to 7:00.
This is different, but we will do our best to meet.  Please remember that you can always email to ask a question (click for addresses) or call (I will get the word out when the phones are repaired, thanks again for your patience).

Last Day For MEAP

Wednesday is our last day for MEAP!
6th grade is taking Social Studies.
7th grade is finishing Writing.
8th grade is taking Science.

Student Make-Up Tests will be conducted the remainder of the month.

Once again thanks to all of the people that have helped.  Great job Mrs. Eltschlager and Mr. Majewski on organizing.  Thank you Mrs. Scally and Mrs. Whalen for getting together our MEAP Juice, MEAP Mints, and our volennteer army.  Thank you all of the parents who helped sort and count tests.  MEAP is a HUGE task and it takes many people working hard to get the job done.  Thanks again!

Happy Calculator Day!

Happy Calculator Day!
Please remind your child to bring their calculator to school on Monday in order for us to make sure they have them for the Mathematics MEAP on Tuesday.
Teachers will keep them overnight and we will give them back on Tuesday.

Thank you.

Go Broncos!

Greetings from Mr. Hurley, the principal at BJHS!

This has been a year of change and I am very excited to be a part of that.
BJHS has 1201 excited students who are ready to learn.
We have almost 50 % new teachers.
We have 66 % new students.
Two new assistant principals and a new principal.

One of the changes is that we are trying to be "greener" and save printing costs by not sending home enourmous amounts of papers. However, communication is very important for a successful building, so I created this blog to help send information home.

Please feel free to call me, 734.850.6201 or email me if you have any questions or concerns.

Go Broncos!
