Live Solo & Ensemble

I am up in Livonia now watching many of our staff work and students perform at Solo & Ensemble. The performance is an opportunity to showcase our students talents individually and in small groups. I have seen many nervous people today, and those are just the parents. Thank you to staff members that are working the event and congratulations to all students who participated.

School Board Appreciation

Last night was our School Board Appreciation Dinner.  The SHS Silver Spoon Cafe served dinner to our school board, administrators, and student leaders.  BPS appreciates our school board and all the time and effort that they put into our school.  If you would like to contact our board members, their information is at this link.  If you would be interested in running for school board in the future, you may contact the superintendent for more information.

Note From The Nurse

Here is a message from Mrs. Satkowski, our district nurse,  regarding fevers and returning to school:

When to Keep Children Home from School

**Children must be fever-free without using fever-reducing medication for 24 hours before returning to school.**

If your child has a fever on:                     *Can’t return to school before:
Monday                                                      Wednesday
Tuesday                                                      Thursday
Wednesday                                                 Friday
Thursday                                                    Monday
Friday                                                         Monday

*Example:  If your child is sick on Monday and doesn’t have a fever on Tuesday and hasn’t used medicine on Tuesday to keep the fever down, then your child can return to school Wednesday.  If your child still has a fever on Tuesday, then he shouldn’t return before Thursday. (Avoid using aspirin or medications with aspirin in them, since aspirin may cause Reye’s  Syndrome, a rare but serious illness.)

This guideline will help to protect your child from picking up another infection when he is rundown and it will help to reduce the spread of illness at school.

*This is an important guideline currently given to schools from the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia.

Also, remind your children to:

  • ·       Wash their hands often with soap and water.
  • ·       Cover their coughs or sneezes with a tissue or use their elbow, arm or sleeve to cover their nose or mouth when a tissue isn’t available.
  • ·       Not to share personal items including food and drinks.
  • ·       Get your family vaccinated for seasonal flu and H1N1 flu when vaccines are available.

Tis the Season

Tis the Season for sick students.  This is the time of year that we are having a large amount of sick students and I want to remind you of some of the procedures.

Make sure you call the attendance line, 734.850.6210, to report an absence. homework can be requested only after two consecutive days of absence. If you know you will be gone for multiple days (vacation or medical) please send a note prior to absence to the office. the student is responsible for  collecting the homework. When sick and no request is made students can get the work upon their return.

Excuse notes can also be given to Ms. Kitzmiller. If they have any restrictions (carry water bottle, no PE,..) they are to give the note to our health aid, Mrs. Bauer, and she will make a copy.

When students come into the building after 7:30, please make sure you sign in with Ms. Kitzmiller in the attendance office.

Happy New Year and Welcome Back!

It is very nice to be back for the new year!  The students were very excited when they got off the buses this week to get back in the swing of things.
Mrs. Tillman's class has started discussing culture and how it is defined.  Students were reading, having a class discussion, and taking notes.  They were working very hard and happy to be back.
