Academic Excellence

BJHS does many things to recognize academic excellence.
On Thursday April 19th we had the James P. McHugh Academic Honors Banquet.  Mr. McHugh started this dinner to honor students of high academic achievement. We honored 258 students that had at least a 3.7 grade point average. Thank you very much to the Bedford Education Association for Co-Sponsoring this event.  We had several people speak.  Assistant Superintendant Jonathan Whan spoke from the perspective of a parent, Math Teacher Rick Snowberger spoke from the school point of view, and our most important speaker senior Kayla Winters talked about where they were going as students.  Congratulations to all the students honored.
National Junior Honor Society will be having their induction on May 14th.  Students are selected for showing Scholarship, Leadership, Character, and Service. Membership is selective and they must show attributes in all four areas. Applications are being prepared currently and will be delivered to the students next week.

We also honor students from the individual grades in three separate awards ceremonies.  Students are recognized for being achievers in their classes, clubs, sports, and attendance.
Our three grade level quiz bowl teams will be competing against other county quiz bowl teams this week.  Last year our 7th grade won top honors and we are hoping for a great performance from our other teams.
Last week we had our school wide final spelling bee.  We had each grade level compete, and then took the top two from each grade to compete in a school wide program.  Congratulations to 6th grader Lauren Linnebur for winning.

I am privileged to work with your students and we all are very proud of all of the accomplishments.

Super U

Thank you PTSA for bringing in Chris and his Super U Assembly.  We conducted three separate grade level meetings for the students.  Timely issues regarding making good choices, how you treat others, and building trust were discussed. In addition to the students competing in many fun competitions.  Thanks again to PTSA for bringing this program to the students.

Happy Spring Break!

I hope everyone has a great spring break.  Today we closed with a 6th/7th grade Assembly, "Minute To Win It" .  Students competed against teachers in various games.  Everyone had a great time.  Please enjoy your time off and I am looking forward to the home stretch.
